Raj Somadeva is a senior professor attached to the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology(PGIAR), University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
He was born on October 31, 1960. According to his birth certificate, his full name is Delgahawatthage Raj Kumar Somadeva Delgahawatta. He is currently attached to the PGIAR, which he joined on July 04, 1989.
Raj Somadeva – Academic Career
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) Degree in archaeology in 1986 from the University of Kelaniya. He received his Master of Philosophy (Mphil) Degree in Archaeology from the same university in 1994. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree from the Department of African and Comparative Archaeology in the Faculty of Philosophy of the Uppsala University Sweden in 2006. His Ph.D. thesis title was ‘Urban Origins in Southern Sri Lanka.’ It was accepted as a part of their publication series on Global Archaeology in 2006. He was a Charles Wallace Research Fellow (2005) of the Institute of Archaeology at the University of London.
Among his publications are The Galpaya Survey (2009), Archaeology of the Uda Walave Basin (2010), The Nilgiriseya Survey (2012). He is a founder fellow of the Sri Lanka Council of Archaeologists.

Sir, I would like to remind about an archeological site which was located in Kalpitiya close to the sea. There is name
board fitted by the side of the road and O one day I and some visited it which is located 1.5 km off from the main road actually. Board named as “අල්ලිරà·à¶«à·’ පුර෠විද්â€à¶ºà· ස්ථà·à¶±à¶º ” in the main road. But we couldn’t see anything there and found a name board too. There are 8 acres over land is located according to the neighbou rers there and also boundaries also can be seen clearly with mentioning the dept too. I have taken some photos too but how can I send it from here. Just let us know this meaning of this place sir as the expert of the Archeology. Thank you sir.
